Our Roots

Our centuries-old recipe originates from our ancestors. It is believed to take roots in the wisdom of Eastern Europeans, when people were discovering nutritional and therapeutic properties of naturally sourced products.

Eastern European peoples coexisted with the bees throughout thousands of years of history and cherished beekeeping in their cultures, and for as long as this mutual relationship has existed, so has Makoshen.

Our Mission

Here in Australia, we honor this legacy by providing you with the finest superb quality Bee Bread made with care and tradition.

From select source apiaries located in the pristine unpolluted regions of mainland Australia and Tasmania to your table. We pride ourselves in thoughtful and sustainable harvesting of the raw materials ensuring only the top quality raw honey and bee bread go into each jar.

Bee Bread
Process of creating Makoshen is based on a long-term fermentation of the vital elements of honey bees. The process of fermentation starts in the honeycomb.
At first, foraging bees collect pollen, which, along with nectar, become the starting substance for the bee bread. This nutrient-rich substance is abundant in lactic acid bacteria. The bees then pack this blend into honeycomb cells and seal it with honey. Over time, the mixture undergoes fermentation. This fermentation enhances the nutritional properties of the pollen blend. The beneficial microbes involved in this process generate enzymes, vitamins, organic amino acids, and antibacterial compounds.
As a result, the fermented pollen transforms into bee bread, a powerhouse of natural probiotics and enzymes.
Honey
Honey is the best natural preservative for any biologically active substances. We use selected types of raw honey with increased enzyme content, collected by bees in eco-clean regions of Tasmania.
